DOCUMENTARY FILM BUDGET

There's no getting around it. To make a top-quality documentary film, you must have a minimum budget of $250K to invest in the project.

Being involved with numerous documentary films, our estimate for a professional film project would be around the $550K mark, which is why we are reaching out to the hockey world to help us raise as much as possible to get this film project off the ground and into the theaters nationwide.

It's also a way to chronicle and preserve the awesome legacy of the World Hockey Association players of yesteryear who have since passed, and those who are still with us.

🎥 Mid-Range / Professional ($250K – $750K)

  • Higher production values (multiple cameras, lighting, drones).

  • Travel for key interviews/locations.

  • Access to extensive archives (sports footage, network reels can be expensive).

  • Professional post-production (color grading, sound mix, licensed music).

  • Marketing, festival submissions, and distribution prep.

HELP US MAKE THIS FILM A REALITY

The Story Behind the Film

For seven thrilling seasons, the WHA delivered fast-paced action, larger-than-life personalities, and unforgettable stories that forever changed the game. But unlike other sports legacies, much of the WHA’s history has been scattered, overlooked, or forgotten. Many of the players and fans who lived through it are now aging, and with them, priceless memories of a league that dared to dream big.

That’s why we’re making World Hockey Association: From Defunct to Refunct. This isn’t just a documentary — it’s a mission to preserve hockey history before it slips away. Through rare footage, exclusive interviews, and untold stories, we’ll bring the WHA back to life and honor the players, fans, and communities who made it special.

We can’t do it alone. Independent filmmaking takes resources — for research, travel, film restoration, editing, and production. Every donation, large or small, will directly help us capture this story and share it with future generations of fans.
